The Fire Sky Ankole Female Catalogue
The Fire Sky Cows
Below is a catalogue of our exceptional female animals. Through our extensive embryo program, where we do all aspirations (OPU’s) and transfers (ET’s) on our farm, we have complete and reliable information on all fertility aspects of our animals. Similarly, we only select the best of the best young first time recipients, which will ensure that our embryos are implanted in hardy, well adjusted female animals.
1. First generation – original Ugandan genetics, born in South Africa
A07-042 Kyasha (51 4/8″)
BA1 / A21
With her perfect horns at over 51″ and with 20″ bases, Kyasha is currently the benchmark Ankole cow in South Africa. She is a magnificent example of the Ankole breed in both her stature and her personality. She is a BA1 product from A21. Kyasha has proven to be a very fertile cow and at 16 years continues to be a prolific embryo donor. Her conversion of embryo to successful recipient pregnancy is exceptional. Although she has proven to breed exceptional females with Maximus, she also does well with all other bulls we have used with her. With offspring such as Dyana (a Kyasha/Dyambo daughter) and our four Kyasha-Maximus sisters, this exceptional traditional Ankole line will form the core of the Swanepoel Ankole Stud.
A06-009 Sheba (45 1/8″)
BA2 / A10
Sheba is a beautiful Ankole cow with a strong build and magnificent horns. With her darker brown colour, Sheba is another prime example of a very traditional Ankole look. She was correctly crowned as the 2020 ARC best elite cow with exceptional values for ICP (intercalf), growth and milk production. As a BA2 and A10 combination she was always going to breed masculine bulls. Our own Ruhugo is proof of that and through him Sheba’s fantastic bloodline will be entrenched in our animals. She is also the mother of Uganda, further proving that a cow that produces great bulls is worth her weight in gold.
A06-004 Latifa (45″+)
This amazing old lady is a daughter of BA2 and A17. Adding BA1 to her progeny is going to produce phenomenal female animals. As Latifa is a cow on loan from Rydens, we will not be selling her offspring yet.
A07-003 Dembe (40″+)
Another phenomenal first generation daughter of BA2 and A32. Having her progeny in our herd is something every new Ankole farmer can dream about. As Dembe is a cow on loan from Rydens, we will not be selling her offspring yet.
FSAN22-003 Eve
Eve is the first heifer born on our farm, and has the sweetest nature and a beautiful build for such a young heifer. Her sire is BA3 and her dam the phenomenal A26 – making her the full sister of NANK07-141, the dam of our Black Diamond. This time the bloodline has combined for the perfect mottled look. Eve has been donating embryos from a very young age and this will assist us to replicate this famous combination. This is genetic gold!
Well preserved, original bloodlines
LCM – Fabers
LCM19-001 Storm (41 7/8″ and 18 4/8″ bases)
Storm is a daughter of Kyasha (A07-042) and Maximus (NANK10-115), two of the largest Ankoles in the country. With such royal parents, Storm arrived at Fire Sky Ankole with the attitude of a spoiled princess, and so the nickname Storm stuck. In the last year she has matured and with her dam being the matriarch of the herd she has settled down and is living up to her BA1 potential. She is a very fertile young cow.
A – Simon Hodges
A11-018 Queen (43 3/8″)
Such and appropriately named cow, regal in looks and behaviour. She shares a sire with Lady in ANKGEN A6-003 (a BA2/A17 combo) but she has also got some royal blood from her dam which is ANKGEN A7-009 (a BA1/A23 combo). We expect brown and roan offspring from this amazing cow in the future.
A11-381 Lady (42 7/8″)
Lady is appropriately named as she is a beautiful red brown Ankole cow with exceptional feminine features. Her sire was a BA2/A17 combo with her dam a BA1/A17 combo. She continues to be an excellent embryo donor.
A15-006 Nandi (42 1/8″)
This cow, a BA1/A23 crossed with a BA1/A21, is in the prime of her productive life and an absolute top embryo donor. We have two of her young daughters in both A23-002 (Asante) as well as A23-004 (Ayoola). Nandi is matched with Zeus for what we expect to be spectacular offspring.
A14-015 Imani (43 7/8″)
Once her two daughters SA23-001 (Anansi) and SA23-003 (Adisa) were born, we decided to acquire both her (and Nandi) as donors for our own embryo production plan. To me she encapsulates what I am looking for in an Ankole stud cow, both physically as well as aesthetically!
Imani is really doing well in combination with Dyambo Junior, one of our herd’s breeding bulls. This is BA1/A34 crossed with BA1/A17.
A15-004 Rhodon (32″)
Her name describes her colour, which she gets from her sire’s side. ANKGEN07-029 is a BA1 and A23 combination and it is believed that all roan/grey Ankole in South Africa has A23 as an ancestor. Her dam A07-018 is a lovely combination of BA2 and A13. Another cow that has recently arrived after years of surviving in very harsh conditions.
R – Jack and Maelize Brotherton
A11-526 Kamali (40″+)
Kamali is one of the 4 loan cows Jack and Marielize Brotherton has lent us for the last year. We crossed them with our own young bulls and believe that their progeny will form the core of the Swanepoel Ankole Stud in future. She is a BA2 and A29 cross with BA2/A13. Zeus is a son of Kamali.
A13-051 Shomari (37″+)
A very feminine cow with her sire a BA3/A32 and her dam a BA2/A23. One could expect roan coloured offspring from time to time. As Shomari is a cow on loan from Rydens, we will not be selling her offspring yet.
Existing South African Genetics
R19-002 Mosi (44 1/8″)
Mosi is a beautiful, glossy red Ankole heifer with exceptional horns and a gentle and soft demeanour. Her growth is one of the most impressive in our records. She is an almost equal blend of the original BA 1, 2 and 3 bloodlines, with A13, A15 and A18 all contributing. The asymmetrical shape of her huge horns makes her stand out in the herd.
NANK18-001 Anele (41 2/8″)
Anele is a beautiful and well-structured feminine Ankole cow. She has a stunning glossy brown colour and beautiful symmetrical horns. Her sire is the original Bumba, himself a product of BA2 and A24, and BA1 and A1. Anele fits perfectly into our future stud breeding plans and has shown excellent compatibility with both Zeus and Dyambo Jnr so far.
FBG21-037 Dyana (27 1/8″)
Dyana is a beautiful daughter of Kyasha (A07-042) and Diambo (NANK07-047). When you cross legends, you expect exceptional results. Dyana is a double dose of BA1, with A4 through Diambo and with A21 through Kyasha. This is a young heifer with stunning potential which we acquired from the Jouberts of Full Blood Genetics.
FBG21-041 Shami (26 2/8″)
Shami is a beautiful, good natured heifer sired by Uganda (A07-039). Uganda is a BA2 and A26 combo. She is a very feminine heifer with the deep brown colour we would like to replicate.
DFN22-028 Kiona (20 7/8″)
Kiona is a Bihogo brown, superior quality heifer sired by the incredible Cumulus (NANK10-120, BA2 & A26), a Rutara horn-shaped 50″ bull that sold for a record price of R1.65m at the 2022 National Ankole Auction. Her dam is Merlot (NANK06-006) boasting a 47″ horn length and genetics of BA1 x A5. Merlot sold for a record price at the 2023 National Ankole Auction. At a young age Kiona is showing the same excellent fertility of her famous dam. She is the perfect specimen of a spectacular Bihogo brown Ankole.
R20-003 Afiya (34 3/8″)
Afiya is a beautiful dark brown young heifer, with well balanced proportions and symmetrical horns. She is a perfect blend of all 3 original bloodlines in BA1 with A13, BA2 with A15 and also BA3 with A18. Afiya is a great embryo donor which means we will be able to replicate this combination with our own stud bulls.
R20-006 Mila
Mila is a well-built, slightly mottled red heifer with a good set of wide horns. Mila shows significant potential at a young age. She is a good balance of BA1 with A13 and BA2 with both A17 and A32. we plan to combine Mila with one of our young BA3 bulls. Watch this space!
R20-011 Aisha (20 5/8″)
This brave young heifer is a special animal with great genetic potential. The perfect blend of BA1 with A13 and BA2 with both A34 and A2. As she broke her leg in a freak accident when she arrived at Fire Sky, she will be well looked after by us for all her life. Despite this enormous setback, she has recovered well and has been a good embryo donor during this time.
FSAN22-008 Sky
Sky is the daughter of Dyambo (NANK07-047) a BA1 and A4 combo with Misty, who is a double BA2 and A26 combo. She is a prolific embryo donor, but ideally should now be combined with Rafiki and Ruhugo.
FSAN22-004 Black Beauty
Black Beauty is the daughter of Black Diamond and already shares many of her mother’s good characteristics. She even has a further dosage of the A26 bloodline from her sire’s side. She is another prolific embryo donor at a very young age. By combining her with our BA1 and BA2 bulls, some exciting progeny is to be expected.
FSAN23-009 Lightning
An exciting young heifer from Jupiter (ANKMA07-016) the BA2 and A13 famous bull and our own Milky Way (LU17-012), which is a balanced blend of BA2 and A15 and BA3 and A26.
SA23-001 Anansi
A product of our early purchased embryos. Anansi is the product of responsible breeding, bringing together BA1 and 2 bloodlines with A26, A18 and A34 as well as A17. Her dam is Imani (ANKFA14-015) who now forms part of our own stud. A truly prospective young heifer.
SA23-002 Asante
Another well proportioned heifer with a dark brown colour. A strong combination of BA1 with A26, A18, A23 and A21. Seeing her potential made the decision to also buy her dam Nandi (ANKFA15-006) an easy and smart decision!
SA23-004 Ayoola
Ayoola is our second Nandi (ANKFA15-006) dark brown heifer from exactly the same sire. Here we truly got double the potential of this strong combination! (See Asante above)
SA23-003 Adisa
Another Imani (ANKFA14-015) daughter with prominent feminine features. Perfectly blended BA1 with A18 and A17 and BA2 with A26 and A34. Now to cross breed her with new BA3 young bulls to see what the best of all our legacy bloodlines can produce!
