Welcome to Fire Sky Ankole

By the time South Africa went into hard lock down in 2020 in response to COVID-19, very few economic activities were allowed in the country, with the notable exception of cattle farming.

With our deep, extensive experience in game, dairy and cattle farming we decided to start buying, raising and selling cattle as a significant business.

That business has evolved into what is today Swahele Feedlot, which is run very successfully by the Swanepoel family.

At about the same time, the then 15-year-old Zack, got his first taste of the Ankole Cattle. He was drawn to the unique characteristics and beautiful features of the Ankole and convinced his uncle, André and his dad Bernard to buy a few.

Through great dedication and careful selection, Fire Sky Ankole has been able to put together a herd of animals that we are proud of. We are continually expanding our herd as we search for the best available genetics.

The purpose of this project is to improve communal farmers’ cattle by providing high quality full blood Ankole bulls to local farmers. We have a surplus of Ankole bulls which we would sell or exchange with local community and subsistence farmers.

This is how it works: we will offer one quality Ankole bull for two lesser quality community bulls, or the equivalent cash value of R16 000. Our family’s feedlot will be able to convert these community bulls into sufficient value to sustain this project and allow us to acquire bulls from other Ankole farmers.
